How to audit AI-generated brand information

A useful audit checks identity and claims answer by answer instead of reducing accuracy to one score.

1. Define the target entity

  • Canonical product and organization name.
  • Domains, spelling variants, transliterations, former names and genuine sub-brands.
  • Products or similarly named companies that must not be merged with the target.

2. Build a balanced prompt sample

Include direct branded questions, unbranded category discovery, best-of, purchase and comparison prompts. Add a location only where the business actually serves it. Record the wording rather than summarizing it later.

3. Verify each material claim

  • Correct entity: is the answer about this business?
  • Correct offering: are products, services and availability current?
  • Correct location and audience: are geographic claims supported?
  • Correct evidence: does the cited page actually support the statement?
  • Correct uncertainty: does the answer overstate information the source does not prove?

4. Fix the authoritative source

Correct the business's own crawlable pages first, then update authoritative profiles or directories under the business's control. Use one consistent entity description and link detailed claims to documentation. Do not create fake third-party citations.

5. Recheck without over-attribution

Repeat comparable prompts after sources can be recrawled. A changed answer is evidence of a changed output, not proof that one edit caused it. Keep unsuccessful and unchanged results in the record.
